"Hands On" & "Technical" Experience provide us with "Qualifications" of the Industries that we serve.

J.C. McHugh, Jr./President, had the unique opportunity of growing up in a family who operated a business that covered so many different industries. This enabled him to learn the intricacies of those industries at a very young age. At the age of 18, J.C. was qualified to work on and lead a team of personnel, to rebuild two steam locomotives. Their extensive overhauls included the upgrading of them to the then current, Boiler code and Safety Standards, set forth by the United States Department of the Federal Failroad Administration. Since 1978 J.C. has rebuilt and also operated many various types of locomotives and other types of railroad related equipment. This has been at the McHugh facilities or at class I,II,III, & regional railroads, short lines, transit systems, and industrial plant operations. J.C's crane industry experience since 1978, is from when he maintained and operated many types of; locomotive, conventional truck, hydraulic & crawler cranes. He has also been involved with many critical and heavy capacity lifts such as. The lifting of derailed 450 ton railroad ladle cars full of molten hot steel, and then to place them back onto the tracks. J.C. has operated cranes up to 265 ton lift capacity, and driven tractor trailers hauling up to 150 tons. McHugh Railroad Maintenance Equipment, Inc. was incorporated in 1985, and under the direction of J.C.McHugh, Jr. the McHugh company has became a diversified supplier of railroad related equipment. Today, if a customer has a equipment challenge arise. It is not uncommon to find our C. E.O., J.C. at their location providing his knowledge and expertise to resolve it, and to get them back into operation.

Ann Gillaspy - McHugh / Vice President-Sales & Finance, accredited accomplishments in business college provide the qualifications for her to handle our administrative part of our business. Ann, also has over eight years of experience in the electrical and electronic industries. Her duties during that time included working on and assembling many various prototype models, along with testing and qualifying them, prior to the units being placed on the market. Today aside from her other company duties, Ann assist our constantly growing list of satisfied customers with; equipment & parts sales, and the scheduling of preventative routine maintenance or emergency service calls. However, if a customer has a "emergency" type of situation occur, Ann will take the required action to help resolve it. As in the McHugh family "hands on" traditions of trying to help a customer when they have a problem. If necessary Ann will even assist in a plant or a outside service job, to get a customer back into operation.

James C. McHugh, Sr. In 1952 when Jimmy was attending the University of Miami, he started a equipment rental company. In 1958 Jimmy returned back to Pennsylvania due to the death of his father, Edward R McHugh. Jimmy, then began to manage the McHugh; crane rental, heavy hauling, rigging & other business, with his; mother Adelaide, brother Robert C., and other family members. Jimmy, also operated several railroads from 1970 until 1985, at which time he resigned from all of the family owned and operated business. Jimmy, was a mechanical engineer and also a member of the American National Standards Institute Committee B-30 from 1969 to 1987. These are the standards used by O.S.H.A. for regulating all; truck, crawler & locomotive cranes, hoist, hooks, derricks, jacks, and slings. Jimmy was also on the Standards committee for all cranes that were to be used in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from 1970 to 1977. Jimmy, was also a Vice Chairman for the South Eastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, and was a Board of Director member for 11 years. This is the mass transit system for the city of Philadelphia, PA and the surrounding five counties. The SEPTA system encompasses all; railroad passenger trains, subways lines, trolley lines, and bus operations. In 1962, Jimmy was instrumental in the design and development of the first 6 six axle truck crane carrier that was ever built, with 3 steering axles & 3 drive axles. This carrier was built and used for the first 100 ton American Hoist & Derrick company truck crane on 6 axles. Because of the great success of Jimmy's 6 axle carrier, the late Mr. John Carrol, a former president of the AH&D Co. worked closely with Jimmy on the design and development of other never before built AH&D truck cranes. They were the first 6 axle AH&D 175 ton, and the first 6 axle AH&D 200 ton cranes. During the years of 1958 to 1985, Jimmy also work with many various manufactures on the designs of many specialized tractors & trailers, cranes, and rigging equipment, for their use in the McHugh companies. Today, Jimmy is semi-retired and works on a part time basis for his son, J.C. McHugh, Jr. However he still enjoys assisting our long time customer's and the adventure of meeting new potential customers.
